The health and wellness industry is booming at the moment and has been for the last few years. The industry is worth billions with a growing number of personal trainers, health food companies and new gym fads. While some are spending over £50 a month on fancy gym classes and memberships and spending fortunes on healthy foods and green smoothies others simply do not have the budget to follow this Instagram trend. Here is how you can live healthy on a budget.
Walking
This is all the rage with the release of the Fitbit and an aim to reach 10,000 steps. Although this is just a marketing tactic for people to buy more Fitbits, it’s a great way to increase your activity time throughout the day. If you work in an office getting up to 10,000 steps can be a challenge. Walk to work, park furthest away in the supermarket car park, use the stairs – move more! Be more aware of how much you are moving throughout the day. What’s great about walking is that it burns fat and its free!
Meal Prep
Everyone knows that buying your food in bulk is cheaper in the long haul. So cook large portions of food such as curry, chilli or bolognese and freeze them to use them throughout the week.
Meal prep also avoid buying fatty takeaways or purchasing an expensive Pret on your lunch break.
Frozen Fruits & Vegetables
Fresh fruits and vegetables can be pricey even when they are in season, especially berries. Frozen fruits are usually cheaper and just as nutritious. Frozen fruits are great on top of your breakfast oats or in smoothies. Its also a great way to prevent waste as you are not under pressure to finish the fruit or veg in a couple of days.
Workout At Home
Some of the best workouts to tone the body and shift fat is body weight exercises. No equipment or gym membership needed, exercises such as burpees, press ups, jumps, lunges and squats are all great to get you fit!
