Positivity comes from within, but what happens when you’re stuck in a rut? Here are a few methods of training your brain to be more positive.
Observe Your Thoughts
Observing your thoughts will help you identify the sources of negativity in your life. Your thoughts aren’t always conscious, so try taking 10 minutes out of your day to think – and see what comes to mind. Humans naturally pick up habits whether these be good or bad, so soon taking 10 minutes out to think will just be part of your routine.
Scan for Three Daily Positives
Your brain is easiest to train before you go to sleep. Use a short amount of time before you go to sleep to reflect on the day and choose at least 3 positive things to focus on. It doesn’t have to be big things, even something as simple as someone buying you coffee, or it being buy-one-get-one-free on your favourite chocolate bar. Because after all, it’s the little things that matter.
Give Someone a Shout Out
Showing gratitude towards someone can make you more optimistic, and studies have shown it can even help ward off heart disease. If you want to keep track of all the little things then why not try keeping a gratitude journal, not only will this help you be grateful, you can also look back on it and see all the wonderful things people have done for you.
Help Others
Random acts of kindness can not only boost your spirits, but other peoples as well. The world is a crazy, and often messed up place, a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
Surround Yourself with Positive People
We adapt to be similar to the people around us – whether it’s conscious or subconscious, it happens. So surround yourself with people who empower and motivate you to be a better and more positive person.
Look After Your Body and Mind
It’s important to take care of yourself. Exercising for just 20 minutes a day can make you happier as it releases endorphins into your brain. Eating healthy can also make you feel better mentally.
Subconscious Re-Training and Inner Healing
Sometimes your brain needs to retrained and healing needs to begin internally for you to feel happier. Exercises such as tapping, daily affirmations, neuro-linguistic programming and mirror work can help build and support a positive mindset.
Make Time to do Something That You Love
With a busy work schedule, this can be rather tricky, but it’s always important to make time for yourself and the things you love, even if it’s only occasionally. Something as simple as going out for dinner with a friend, planning a weekend away or trying a new hobby. Try and keep your mind active and you’ll thank yourself later on.
